How Boomi’s Model Context Protocol (MCP) Powers the Next Wave of Agentic Transformation

How Boomi’s Model Context Protocol (MCP) Powers the Next Wave of Agentic Transformation

A customer asks a support agent: “Where is my order?” Without any developer intervention, the AI instantly pulls customer information from Salesforce, order status from SAP, and shipment details from the logistics system, then responds in real time: “Your order shipped yesterday and arrives Friday.”

Five years ago, delivering that experience required months of custom integration, dedicated teams, and a significant budget. Today, it is becoming table stakes, but only if the underlying infrastructure is built for the agentic era.

For the past decade, businesses have operated in the digital era: a world of human-triggered, linear operations. Click the button. Run a report. Approve a workflow. Every meaningful step assumed a human in the loop. That paradigm is rapidly dissolving.

From Digital to Agentic: A Transformation Underway

We are in the agentic era where AI agents are not narrow, single-purpose assistants waiting to be summoned, but autonomous collaborators capable of reasoning, planning multi-step actions, and executing complex workflows across enterprise systems with minimal human supervision.

The scale of the opportunity is matched only by the size of the readiness gap. The numbers tell the story:

The verdict is clear: agentic AI doesn’t fail because the models are weak. It fails because the infrastructure isn’t ready. Every layer of the stack — data, connectivity, orchestration, governance—must work in harmony. That is the problem the Model Context Protocol (MCP) agent was created to solve.

What is the Model Context Protocol (MCP) in Agentic AI?

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an emerging open standard that enables AI agents to interact with your tools, data, and services. Think of it as a universal language—or API—that any AI agent can use to connect with any enterprise resource, without requiring a bespoke integration for every pair.

MCP acts as a broker between agents and capabilities. Capabilities such as APIs, databases, file systems, and prompts are exposed via MCP servers. Agents connect through MCP clients embedded in host applications (such as Claude Desktop or Replit).

Boomi MCP: Enterprise-Ready, Governed, and Built to Scale

Boomi brings enterprise-grade governance and orchestration to the MCP ecosystem. Rather than treating MCP as just another integration layer, Boomi positions it as the backbone of a broader agentic AI agent management strategy, one that connects, contextualizes, and controls every agent interaction across your enterprise. The Boomi Enterprise Platform supports MCP through the following tightly integrated delivery surfaces:

API Control Plane

Expose API endpoints as MCP tools automatically. Tool definitions are generated from existing API specs; no custom development overhead. Every request flows with governance, discoverability, and security built in.

Agent Designer

Discover, import, and manage MCP tools in a visual no-code environment. Connect agents to MCP-compliant servers with plug-and-play ease. Schemas update automatically; stale tools are flagged instantly.

The Integration Sprawl Problem: How Boomi MCP Solves It

As AI agents scale across enterprise systems, traditional point-to-point integrations create fragmented architectures that are difficult to govern and maintain. Boomi MCP solves this by providing a centralized, protocol-driven layer that exposes APIs and tools once through MCP-enabled services, enabling standardized connectivity, orchestration, and governance at scale.

Without MCP With Boomi MCP
Custom integrations required for every AI agent and enterprise system connection. Connect AI agents to SAP, Salesforce, NetSuite, Workday, and 1,000+ systems through a unified MCP framework.
Tool and API changes require continuous manual agent updates. Automatically sync tool schemas and API updates with connected AI agents.
Fragmented integrations create API sprawl and inconsistent governance. Centralized governance, policy enforcement, observability, and scalable agent-to-endpoint connectivity.

LevelShift’s Agentic AI Lead-to-Cash Workflow Powered by Boomi MCP

To showcase Boomi MCP’s real-world capabilities, we built a Lead-to-Cash MCP Agent that orchestrates the end-to-end revenue lifecycle across Salesforce and Microsoft Dynamics 365 using multiple coordinated AI agents.

  • The workflow begins with a Sales Agent that automatically qualifies leads, maps product configurations, and converts them into opportunities without manual intervention. Once the opportunity is created, the Boomi Orchestrator Agent (MCP) serves as the central orchestration layer, triggering downstream workflows and coordinating interactions between agents and enterprise systems.
  • The Quote Agent and Pricing Agent work together to generate accurate quotes, validate pricing rules, and enforce discount policies directly within Salesforce. After the quote is accepted, the Coordinator Agent automatically initiates the CRM-to-ERP handoff to Microsoft Dynamics 365.
  • An Inventory Agent then validates stock availability in real time before processing continues. Once inventory is confirmed, the Order Agent creates customer accounts and generates sales orders in Dynamics 365 from Salesforce opportunity data.
  • Finally, the Finance Agent automates invoice generation and stakeholder notifications, while the Coordinator Agent synchronizes ERP updates with Salesforce by marking opportunities as Closed Won and updating sales order details.

Using Boomi MCP as the orchestration backbone, we built an autonomous, event-driven Lead-to-Cash workflow that eliminates manual handoffs, reduces operational delays, improves cross-system synchronization, and accelerates revenue execution. The Lead-to-Cash Agentic Agent is available on the Boomi Marketplace.

What’s New: Advancing MCP Innovation

Boomi World 2026 introduced a set of capabilities that meaningfully expand enterprise MCP adoption and raise the governance ceiling for agentic AI. Three announcements stand out:

  • MCP Registry: Centralize Boomi, third-party, and external MCP tools into a governed catalog to improve visibility, control, and reduce shadow AI risk.
  • Boomi Connect: Connect AI platforms to enterprise systems using managed MCP-enabled tools with policy-based access and auditing.
  • Boomi Orchestrate: Accelerate enterprise agentic workflows by enabling teams to orchestrate agents, APIs, integrations, events, and data through a unified natural language experience.
LevelShift helps accelerate agentic workflows and agentic execution through MCP governance, Boomi Connect configuration, and Orchestrate workflow implementation for scalable AI operations.

As agentic AI adoption accelerates, organizations need more than experimentation; they need a governed foundation for AI-driven execution. Boomi MCP provides the connectivity layer, while LevelShift helps operationalize agentic workflows.

FAQs

What is an MCP agent?
An MCP agent is an AI agent that uses the Model Context Protocol to discover and interact with tools, APIs, and data through a standardized interface rather than custom integrations.

Is MCP the same as agentic AI?
No. Agentic AI refers to autonomous AI systems that can reason and take actions. MCP is the connectivity standard that enables agents to securely access tools and systems at scale.

How does API Control Plane connect to Agent Garden using MCP?
APIs published in Boomi API Control Plane become discoverable MCP tools. Agent Garden automatically imports those tools and schemas via the MCP server connection.

How do you build an AI agent for automated error resolution using Boomi MCP?
Expose error detection and resolution workflows as MCP-enabled APIs, then configure an AI agent in AgentStudio to monitor, diagnose, and resolve issues using those tools.

Can Boomi MCP work with AI tools?
Yes. Boomi Connect enables governed connectivity between enterprise systems and AI platforms such as Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT Enterprise, and Copilot, using MCP-enabled tools.
